Houston, TX
Friday, Feb. 3rd, Houston's  BIRTH (Bringing Information and Resources To Houston) www.houbirth.org  is hosting Gail for an especially fun -double- Spinning Babies Event! WE ARE FULL! There will be a waiting list with Debbie Hull.
We're meeting at the Spaghetti Warehouse for an all-day Spinning Babies Workshop --and a great lunch provided by these creative and birth-friendly restaurant owners. 
...And that's not all! From 6:30-9, we run over to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for 
 
Belly Mapping and Painting for 3rd trimester expectant mothers and a birth partner. Houston's Gymboree is donating a door prize to a pregnant mama/couple for a month's free classes!
 Pregnant women learn how to find their own baby's position and get tips on Optimal Fetal Positioning.  A Belly Mapping Booklet is included and several women can choose to have a picture of their baby -in their baby's actual position - painted on their bellies with safe, washable face paint (as time provides). Houston area doulas and birth professionals will have tables with literature available. Photographers will be present and taking pictures.
 
Where: St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Havens Center, 1827 W. Alabama, Houston, Tx 77098  - Least turns from Spaghetti Warehouse and the Spinning Babies Workshop that day to Belly Mapping: Take Commerce (east) to Milam (it's one block east and it's one way)  to Alabama (right turn) to St. Stephen's.
Cost: Belly Mapping and Painting only $30, Parents can pay ahead or pay at the door.
Parking: Free at St. Stephen's.  
 
Here's a fun feature:
Gymboree Play & Music in Houston provides parent-child classes for babies -even for newborns!  Gymboree focuses on tactile stimulation, gross & fine motor skills and auditory stimulation.  Gymboree is donating a month of free classes for one lucky new family as a fantastic door prize for our Belly Mapping event!
 
The day's Spinning Babies registrants have the option of attending Friday night's Belly Mapping session -for free! That's right, the registration for Spinning Babies includes this evening with pregnant women and their partners/birth partners so the class has the option to see how Belly Mapping works interactively.
(Others are $30 per pregnant mama and her companion or for a provider of service/care)
Supper is on your own, but we can have a table at the restaurant for all who'd like to join us for a quick bite before leaving for Belly Mapping. 
Bring a personal throw-rug, yoga mat, big pillow and/or regular pillows for either/both workshop(s)! We do things on the floor!  DON'T wear jeans because we have a technique or two that needs softer pants!
 
The lot costs $5 to park for the day downtown. Parking on the street is not recommended as it costs approximately $1.25 an hour.

Ida Darragh brings us the latest in the world of the midwife, and Anne Frye has a wow-filled new computer learning graphic on the pelvis and pelvic floor.  Bill Jack Davis will help us communicate better with parents -and offer a free session just for the mate of the midwife - and I don't mean your sailor! Resolving Shoulder Dystocia

5 hours, 5 MEAC CEUs For midwives and L & D nurses. Doctors welcome! Removing the fear from Shoulder Dystocia with physiological solutions suited to the female upper body strength. Traditional and current methods of resolution. FlipFLOP and PAC Pull, McRoberts and Suprapubic. Learn why the arm wraps around a baby's back and how to get the posterior arm out without breaking bones. Reduce brachial plexus and other injuries. You will learn and you will succeed! My practice models are old, but are enhanced with a foam pelvic insert that adds a touch of reality. Five types of shoulder dystocia and you will learn to recognize them and resolve each type as well as see real birth footage.

When Gail travels to offer a Spinning Babies Workshop to doulas and childbirth educators (we're all childbirth educators on some level), then she likes to gather with the local midwives and present this workshop.  This is appropriate for out-of-hospital or in-hospital birthing. 90-minutes. This is a 30-minute presentation for parents (and their doulas) on how to find their own fetal position with the 3-steps of Belly Mapping. One hour of painting, with tips on fetal positioning for the needs of those present.

Personal attention, Q and A, palpation and explanations. Possible chance for women to have their babies painted on their bellies as time allows (15 minutes per belly is typical). Belly Mapping is only offered in conjunction with other workshops when Gail is traveling, or can be found locally in Mpls/St. Paul at some of the Baby Fairs or at Blooma Yoga.

(An intro to Belly Mapping for providers is included in the Spinning Babies Workshop. Painting is not offered in the Spinning Babies Workshop. )

Belly Painting

Belly Painting isn't officially part of Belly Mapping, but mothers are requesting that it be so! We'll soon have a guide to share painting tips. 

Meanwhile, once you've learned Belly Mapping you can apply what you've learned to paint the actual position of the baby on a pregnant woman's abdomen. Its a fun bonding experience for the mother - and the painter!



 

Cancelations

There are three options for canceling and each has a different thing for you if you choose that option.
1. Give your registration to the next person on the waiting list, or if there isn't a waiting list, then #2. Email or contact the hostess before 8am on the day of the workshop to qualify for a refund.
2. Give your registration to your friend/colleague/next person on the waiting list (whenever there is one) and have them pay you for it and tell me that they are attending for your spot, as you are at a birth. You will not get a refund from me in this case.
3. Come to another location on another day, drop me an email to say so (be mindful that other locations may already be full.). This exchanges the workshops and no money is owed or refunded, its equal.
4. Get a refund minus a $20 handling fee if canceled after 8 am on the day of the workshop. (If you are at a birth on the day of the workshop, you can get a full refund, but you must contact us somehow.) 
5. No show, no refund. You must contact me by phone or email by the day of the workshop for a refund, otherwise you forfeit your registration fee. Call the hostess so someone who is hoping to get in can fill your spot. Please! Don't ask for a refund days or weeks later!
 
 
Canceling? Contact the local hostess on or before the day of the workshop to increase the chance of a refund. At a birth? Cancel by 8 am of the day of the workshop and get a full refund.
 

Babies? 

Babies under 3 mo.s are fine to stay. Other babies can come at lunch break and go with a trusted loved-one at 1:30. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience, but I'm just too distractible and babies are too sensitive for some of the content. Mama's with newborn babies, please take them out when they are verbal, whether crying or chatting with us. Babies are so precious and cute, I love them! --but we have a lot to cover and I will have a hard time tracking with a verbal or mobile baby in the room. Thanks so much, and I hope you understand.
