"I loved the little illustrations and I enjoyed thinking and being able to tell in what position my baby was at any time."-Alex, Canada
“...Gail Tully combines
her unique gifts of clinical expertise, experience, creativity, sensitivity,
intuition, original thinking, and wisdom to solve the mysteries of the baby’s
position in utero.
She shows pregnant
women and their caregivers a variety of clues that reveal the baby’s position
and how to put them all together to
create a picture of the baby inside. She
also suggests many ways for a pregnant or laboring woman to create favorable
conditions for her baby to find its way into and through her pelvis and be
born. Gail’s work deserves the attention and
study of the scientific community, since fetal position is a major determinant
of labor progress and mode of birth...”

"Belly Mapping is a wonderfully intimate
way for mothers to
help connect with her baby in the womb as well as have a sense of baby's
position. The information found in this slim volume will make a world
of difference in your comfort for pregnancy and birth."
"Gail Tully’s book, Belly
Mapping,
is a unique resource for both expectant parents and their caregivers.
The greater portion of the book is
given to helping parents identify their baby’s position in the uterus by
palpating, or feeling the baby’s body by pressing the hands on the
abdomen. Parents learn to keep a
diagram of the baby’s position changes, and to recognize when those
changes
occur. The greatest value of the
book, however, is in understanding how the position of the baby affects
the
course of labor, and in maternal posture or movements that can help a
baby move
into the optimum position for an easier delivery. All pregnant women
should read this book, and all maternity
care providers should become familiar with the techniques described by
Ms
Tully!"

"Hooray for women
getting to know their own bodies and their baby inside! Gail Tully’s
book, BellyMapping, is a
wonderful
read for moms and dads, midwives, doctors, doulas, nurses and childbirth
educators. It gives solid ideas and directions that all readers can use
to better understand and explain what is happening inside that
wonderfully
mysterious place we call the womb. The tips for helping the baby get
into
the best position for birth are invaluable! I am so glad Gail covers so
many situations and gives concrete, easy to understand directions for all
involved. What a wonderful addition to any professional’s library and
it
is so user-friendly that a family can save it as a keepsake to track the
journey of their pregnancy."

Correction: There is a single mistake on page 25, the page after (under) the transparency. When you look through the transparency to the LOP baby on the right hand paper page, you see the words behind the transparency for a map of an oblique lie. The words "bulge in hip" should be whited out,
carefully, and the word "wiggles" should be written at the bottom of the circle above the area of the pubic bone. As of May 5, 2010 all Belly Mapping Workbooks come with a correction sticker already applied. The bottom of the LOP circle on page 25 looks like this with the sticker applied:
For consistency, apply to page 11 as well.
Improvement: On page 24, the page to the left of the transparency, the "Exceptions" some comments are not written close to the transparency image that pertains to the comment. I will include a pdf file to replace that page here. The words aren't incorrect, they just appear across from the matching baby which might confuse a casual reader. See right, the new page will make sense when the transparency is placed on it. Mind the center margin, it nudges the spiral binding for room, trim the new page slightly if that bothers you.
As it is in the booklet now, the note about LOP babies is written next to an ROP baby. When the
transparency is covering the page, look across the page for the baby or state of flexion described.

"Just had to thank you for your work
on SpinningBabies.com
and your Belly Mapping Workbook which I just received in the
mail! I am a doula, childbirth educator and former midwifery student
(left
midwifery to have more children... just found out we are expecting
#6!). I
recently referred my cousin to your site as she had a breech baby at 32
weeks. Within 24 hours of following your techniques, that baby
turned! We are so thankful! This information is a joy! I
first discovered Optimal Fetal Positioning several years ago and it
changed how
I support birthing women (and how I approach my own births). Spinning
Babies completes that information beautifully!
I was also thinking, in the
future, I could purchase Belly Mapping Workbooks and include the cost in
the
workshop fee. That way, each lady would receive one. ...Our first workshop will be held at the end of this
month."

trying harder to reduce waste and eliminate chemical pollution.
Jessen Press in Saint Louis Park, MN uses soy ink for all their work. Any excess ink is sold as biofuel and no ink gets washed down the drain.
Jessen is a family owned, local business. Mark Jessen and his family regularly donate to a program that helps African communities with clean drinking water and help for economic stability during these drought - and AIDS - stricken times. My editor and project Manager, Angie, and I visited Jessen Press and plan to use their services again.
