Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshop FAQs

Do Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshops offer continuing education credits?

Yes! Our 1-day workshop offers 7 CE hours and the 2-day format offers 13 CE hours, accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). These CE hours are widely accepted by certifying bodies for nurses, midwives, physicians, doulas, childbirth educators, and other birth professionals. Many trainers also offer region-specific recognition in places like California, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. All participants receive a certificate of completion listing the applicable CE hours. We recommend checking with your certifying organization for confirmation.

Spinning Babies® offers a physiological approach to birth that works with the body’s natural processes to enhance comfort and ease during labor. Rather than focusing on interventions, Spinning Babies® optimizes fetal positioning, helping to reduce the need for forceful procedures like forceps or cesarean sections. The method encourages a holistic, body-centered approach that allows birth professionals to support families with confidence, reducing fear and promoting a smoother birth experience.

No. Because of its hands-on nature, the Foundational Workshop is only offered in person. This format ensures you receive live instruction, real-time feedback, and direct practice with balancing activities and fetal positioning skills. If you’re looking for online options, we offer a variety of self-paced courses that complement your learning, including topics like breech, scar tissue healing, and resolving shoulder dystocia.

The Foundational Workshop is an introductory workshop designed for birth professionals (RNs, midwives, doulas, physicians, bodyworkers, massage therapists, childbirth educators, prenatal yoga teachers). This workshop teaches the core principles of Spinning Babies®, focusing on optimizing fetal positioning and supporting physiological birth practices. It’s ideal for professionals starting their Spinning Babies® journey or refining their skills to provide enhanced support to families.

The Foundational Workshop is a full-day or two-day in-person learning experience focused on integrating the Spinning Babies® approach into your birthwork. You’ll explore key concepts like the Three Levels of the Pelvis, the Three Balances℠, and the importance of soft tissue mobility in labor progress. Expect a balance of lecture, discussion, and hands-on practice, all guided by an experienced Spinning Babies® Approved Trainer.

You’ll also be part of a supportive community of birth professionals who, like you, are committed to reducing unnecessary interventions and working in harmony with the body’s natural rhythms. You’ll leave with practical skills you can use right away to support comfort, improve fetal positioning, and ease labor for the families you serve.

Yes. As part of our commitment to reducing birth disparities and supporting equity in birth work, each Spinning Babies® Foundational Workshop offers at least one Equity Seat for a Black and/or Indigenous birth professional of Color. These seats are reserved for local birth workers or pregnancy-focused bodyworkers who are actively supporting families during pregnancy or birth.
To request an Equity Seat, contact the Approved Trainer listed on the workshop page. Each trainer has their own process and must be contacted directly, but all have committed to making space for birth professionals from historically excluded communities. Availability is limited, so we encourage reaching out early before the class fills.
Equity Seat recipients are never identified publicly—your privacy and self-identification are fully respected. This is one way Spinning Babies® continues to support inclusive access to education and the global movement toward physiological, respectful care.

The Birth Skills Training is an intensive, three-and-a-half-day retreat style training designed to dive deeper into fetal positioning, anatomy, and physiology. Unlike the Foundational Workshop, which introduces the basics of Spinning Babies®, the Birth Skills Training provides an advanced, hands-on experience that is one of the two pathways to becoming a Certified Birth Professional. It’s ideal for professionals who want to enhance their expertise and feel more confident in supporting physiological birth.

The Foundational Workshop is designed to support your personal practice—it does not qualify you to teach the Spinning Babies® approach to other professionals. Only Spinning Babies® Approved Trainers are authorized to lead professional workshops.

If your goal is to teach expectant parents, we invite you to explore the Certified Parent Educator Training. This advanced program prepares you to teach the Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Class, equipping you with presentation materials, class resources, promotional tools, and a listing on our website. It’s a powerful way to bring the Spinning Babies® approach to your community and support families as they prepare for birth.

Yes, most Foundational Workshops offer continuing education credits for nurses and midwives, though availability may vary by location. Each workshop listing includes details on CE eligibility, provider approval, and the number of credits offered. Be sure to check the specific event page or reach out to the host trainer with questions.

After the Foundational Workshop, you can continue your journey with Spinning Babies® through a variety of in-depth learning opportunities designed to expand your skills and deepen your understanding of physiological birth.

Two Certification Pathways:

  • Integration Workshop: For those who’ve completed the Foundational Workshop and have at least three months of hands-on experience, this in-person workshop focuses on refining your skills and deepening your application of the approach. It is one of two pathways to becoming a Spinning Babies® Certified Birth Professional.
  • Birth Skills Training: A 3.5-day immersive retreat-style experience that explores fascia, fetal positioning, and neurophysiology. This pathway also leads to certification and offers advanced hands-on training in birth physiology.

Additional Advanced Programs:

  • Certified Parent Educator Training: If you’re drawn to teaching expectant parents, this training equips you to teach the Spinning Babies® Birth Preparation Class. You’ll receive a full curriculum, presentation materials, class resources, promotional support, and a listing on our website.

  • Aware Practitioner Training: Designed for hands-on professionals like bodyworkers, massage therapists, chiropractors, and midwives, this training offers practical bodywork techniques to restore balance, ease tension, and create space within the body. Through fascia release, nervous system awareness, and layered touch, you’ll support overall function and comfort with an individualized approach.

We also offer self-paced online learning to complement your in-person training. These include specialized courses on breech, scar tissue healing, shoulder dystocia, and birth anatomy, allowing you to continue learning from wherever you are, on your own schedule.
